I'm having problems with Face Scan Verification

The site says “We couldn’t access your camera”, but I have one. What should I do?

You’ll see this message if your camera permissions are turned off on your device. To fix this, click the camera icon in your address bar to open your camera settings. Here you can give your browser permission to access your camera and then try to prove your age again.

Error messages during Age Estimation

"Move away from direct light"

Your age could not be estimated as your face was not clearly visible. Please move away from direct light so that your face is evenly lit.

If you see the error message “Move away from direct light”, it is likely that there was bright light covering a part of your face. This makes it hard to capture your image for age estimation. Please move to another well-lit area where your face is more evenly lit, this can often be achieved by turning around slightly so the light no longer hits your face.

"Move to a brighter area"

Your age could not be estimated as your face was not clearly visible. Please move to a brighter area so that your face is well-lit.

If you see the error message “Move to a brighter area”, there isn’t enough light to capture your image for age estimation. Please move to another well-lit area or try and turn on some additional lights.

How can I make sure the photo is fit for purpose?

To estimate your age effectively we need a clear picture of you. The page will give tips to help you position your face in the right place to capture a good image. Before trying to position your face in the outline please make sure that:

  • You are in a well-lit area and your face is evenly lit
  • You have taken off any headwear that might hide parts of your face
  • There are no other faces that might be picked up in the background

Note: If you wear glasses, you don’t need to take them off.
