"Installation folder must begin with an alphabetic character" Error appears when installing

This error happens when the game folder starts with a non-alphabetical character and the you attempt to change the installation path when installing on the Epic Games Launcher. To resolve this issue, try following the steps below to change the default installation path.

Change the default installation path

  1. Navigate to the Library in the Epic Games Launcher
  2. Attempt to install a different game that starts with an alphabetic character.
  3. Set the installation path as the installation location where you want to install the game having issues.
  4. Select Install,
  5. Once the installation starts, wait a few seconds, then select the 3 dots next to the game and click Cancel Installation.
    • This will update your default installation path.
    • The cancelled installation will remain as “Resume”, if you want to remove this, you can just uninstall the game although the game installation did not complete.
  6. Exit the Epic Games Launcher and wait a few seconds.
    • Note: Check your system tray on the bottom right to confirm the launcher has been fully exited.
  7. Right-click the Epic Games Launcher and select “Run as Administrator” then navigate back to the Launcher's Library
  8. Select the game that was experiencing issues and attempt installation.
    • The installation path should be showing the one previously selected in step 3 without the error message.
  9. Select Install and the game should install properly.
